A. Celebrating the Written Word
Wrapping Presence® is thrilled to be the recipient of a generous donation of 12 wonderful children’s books from the author and illustrator herself. Hardback editions of Susan Meddaugh’s fanciful Martha series, including the popular Martha Speaks, as well as copies of the imaginative and humorous Tree of Birds, Just Teenie, The Witch’s Supermarket, & Witch’s Walking Stick will be on offer for Wrapping Presence shoppers to choose for the children on their lists this season. Each copy has been personally signed, with hand-drawn illustrations, by the author. Thank you for your generosity, Susan!
We are also thrilled to report that through the generosity of the Jane Goodall Foundation we have received 100 sets (8 to a set) of books from the Animal Family Series (Chimpanzee Family, Lion Family, Elephant Family, and more!). These books, through both text and beautiful photographs, give a glimpse into the day to day lives of animal families.
B. The Eagle Has Landed
Wrapping Presence was delighted to be approached by a smart and skilled Eagle Scout named Dan to be the focus of his community leadership project. He has drawn up plans to reconfigure a building for us, and is renovating the space into our permanent processing and organized storage center. We’re counting the days until we can move in and make full use of Dan’s handiwork!
(The building is owned by Doylestown Presbyterian Church. We are so fortunate to have their support and could not exist without the use of their facilities.)
C. Welcome Hill School
Just 3 months after students at The Hill, (a boarding and day secondary school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania) formed a Wrapping Presence® Club, they brought their generosity to a local nursing home and helped over 40 residents shop and wrap gifts as their Hill Chamber Orchestra played lovely seasonal background music. The event merited front page coverage in the Pottstown Recorder and the Hill students are leading the way to a very successful on-going project.
D. Illinois here we come!
When Wrapping Presence® celebrated its’ 10th Anniversary in Pennsylvania, founder Marne Kies Dietterich dreamed of bringing the program to Illinois where her parents had lived out their last years in a nursing home. In December of 2005, under the fabulous leadership of The First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville, many enthusiastic volunteers joined together to bring Wrapping Presence® to over 200 residents of Winchester House, a county nursing home. The snowy Saturday was a true celebration of months of preparation and First Church is looking forward to expanding the organization for the 2006 season.
E. Nursing homes added
With great pride and boundless energy, Wrapping Presence® is currently serving 16 nursing homes within a 60 mile radius of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. We will be adding Neshaminy Manor, our large county home, to our 2006 season. Wow– 16 homes in 15 days. Think of us and wish us luck!
A. Uno’s & Wrapping Presence®
Join us for one of our Uno’s Chicago Grille fundraising events; bring your family and friends for lunch or dinner on the specified day, and let your server know that you are there to support us. Twenty percent of your check will be combined with those of like-minded deep-dish lovers and donated to Wrapping Presence®. All you have to do is eat and drink — how easy is that? (see our Calendar for the next event.
B. Student Project Inspires Corporate Donations
Wrapping Presence® was honored to be the subject of a C.B. East student’s award-winning graduation project. Michael M. created a short video about Wrapping Presence® and took it upon himself to circulate it to several businesses and corporations to encourage their support of the program. His efforts led to an invitation to tour Herr’s Foods, and a meeting with Mr. Herr, himself! Mr. Herr was impressed with Michael’s efforts and by the program, and graciously offered his support. This year, Wrapping Presence® shoppers will have delicious Herr’s chocolate-covered pretzels to choose from when shopping for their loved ones. Thank you, Mr. Herr, and thanks to Michael for being such an enthusiastic ambassador for Wrapping Presence®!
Meet Our Interns
My name is Megan and I am a junior at Central Bucks East High School. I started volunteering for Wrapping Presence three years ago as a wrapping buddy, and enjoyed it so much I decided to make Wrapping Presence my graduation project. Since last spring, I have been helping Marne get prepared for the 2004 holiday season. I have had so much fun doing it and have learned a lot about how much work is involved in a non-profit organization. I also play volleyball for CB East, work with the Patriot Players, and am involved with Key Club and Interact Club. I hope to continue working with Marne my senior year. (Editor’s Note: In June, 2006, Megan received the “Outstanding Graduation Project Award” and is on her way to Miami of Ohio University.)
My name is Caitlin. As a student at The Hill School, I thought my life could not possibly get any crazier. I was looking forward to my senior year, when I thought things would surely calm down. Then I became involved in Wrapping Presence® and realized how wrong I was. Senior year was soon my busiest yet! I was inspired by Marne and my brothers to bring the gift of Wrapping Presence® to Hill — to leave a mark on the school through sharing and giving back to the community. After extensive training and preparation with Marne, I began an official chapter of Wrapping Presence® at the Hill School. I was encouraged thorughout the year by the support of my parents. It was so exciting to see the success of our club’s fundraiser, which led to an incredible afternoon at Manatawny Manor. Starting the Wrapping Presence® club was an amazing experience; it meant so much to me to bring this wonderful program to Hill and to know that it will grow now that I’ve gone. (Editor’s Note: Caitlin is finishing her freshman year at UNC and the Wrapping Presence® club at Hill is still going strong!)
